£10,000 boost for Leyland

Leyland’s Town Team has been awarded £10,000 government cash.

The grant comes as the group was accepted as a Town Team Partner.

The cash will be spent creating a community market, to run alongside the popular Leyland Market, in the new year. Charities and young entrepreneurs will be given free market stalls and shoppers will be able to buy a wider range of goods.

A marketing campaign will also be launched before Christmas to promote Leyland.

The possibility of more free parking spaces for shoppers before Christmas is on the cards too.

The cash will enable the group to make a start on the wish list of improvements it has earmarked for the town, which also includes boosting the evening economy, creating an interactive theatrical heritage trail, and sprucing up the existing shops and pubs.

The Town Team was formed earlier this year as part of the Portas Pilot bid, although unsuccessful the team has remained committed to bringing positive change to the town.
