Chorley star Steve Pemberton has done his home town proud by picking up a prestigious accolade at this year’s Baftas.

Pemberton and co-star Reece Shearsmith’s efforts were recognised at the ceremony as they received the New Media award for their work on the website that runs alongside the black comedy thriller Psychoville.

A design that combines extra features and interactive sections for the viewers to join in with, were what made the judges particularly impressed.

Shearsmith collected the award on the night from comedian Dara O’Brian.

The expansion of the show’s website came in series two when the pair collaborated with Rob and Neil Gibbons to produce fictional content for the website.

Fans of the show could visit the site after each episode and type in a number which would unlock a ‘secret chamber’ at the end of the series.

Pemberton and Shearsmith are no strangers to collaborating on projects and both worked together on the League of Gentleman, with Pemberton being well know for his role in ITV1’s Benidorm.

The pair both had a big involvement in the making of Psychoville, as they both starred and wrote the series.

A previous award winner, Psychoville has scooped Best new British TV comedy and Best Comedy Dram at the British Comedy Awards.

Shown on BBC two the show has had two series, but there is no plans for a third.

The show last aired on June 6 2011.

Pemberton and Shearsmith play numerous characters throughout the show, which revolves around five characters from different parts of England.

Characters in the series include a one-handed clown and a lovestruck dwarf.

Dawn French also stars in the show, which first aired in 2009.

Other winners at the Baftas included the ITV drama about serial killer Fred West, Appropriate Adult.

They picked up the three big awards of the evening including Leading Actor and Leading Actress.

Monica Dolan came away with the best supporting actress on the night for her portrayal of Rose West and said the role had been “a privilege.”

The Special Award on the night of the Baftas went to Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat.

Doctor Who stars Matt Smith and Benedict Cumberbatch presented the writer with his award.
