Five generations make mum's day

A Chorley mum had a perfect Mother's Day present when five generations of her family got together for an unforgettable celebraton.

Muriel McPherson is only 35 but recently became a grandmother when Leah was born.

The family got together on Saturday to exchange presents in advance of Mother's Day when Muriel realised all five generations of her family were in the same room at Buckshaw Hall Close in Astley Village.

She said: "I got so excited when I realised we were all sat in the same room. There was my grandmother, mother, my son and his daughter and of course myself, so I had a friend come round to take photos on a digital camera. We were all so excited we couldn't stop giggling."

In the room were Muriel McPherson, 35; her son Liam Conway-McPherson, who is 18; her grand-daughter 10-month-old daughter Leah Louise Harvey-McPherson; her mother Janetta McPherson-Briggs, 53; and her grandmother, Joan Bramley, who is 82 next month live.

Liam is in his final year of college where he is studying public services and hopes to join the fire brigade.

Janetta McPherson-Briggs used to live in Scotland but recently moved closer to the family and now lives in Scarisbrick, Burscough.

Grandmother, Joan Bramley, has not been able to visit the family as regularly though, and has only seen 10-month-old Leah twice before.

Mrs McPherson said: "I rang my mum to see when she could come round over the weekend, and I also hoped she'd be able to pass on the card I'd got for my nan because it was too big to post. So when she told me my nan was coming round I was really pleased. I am very proud of my family, especially the new addition, Leah Louise, and I found it extremely special that we were all together as it was mothering weekend as well."
