Heritage Support Group in search of Titanic model for display

A centenary display in Chorley Central Library will mark the town’s connections with an ill-fated liner.

Working jointly with Lancashire County Library Community History service and the University of Central Lancashire, Chorley Heritage Centre Support Group are set to create a Titanic display, which will be put up in the library’s entrance hall.

It is being designed by and put together by a group of four History students from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) as part of their work in Community History.

They will also produce a leaflet on the subject and will provide additional display material in the library‘s conference hall on April 17 when an illustrated talk on C H Lightoller, Chorley’s Titanic Hero, will be given jointly by a member of CHC and Mr Peter Jackson.

A sound recording of the presentation will also be made.

The Heritage Centre Support Group were hopeful of obtaining a model of the Titanic to help them with their display, but were pipped to the post in an E-bay auction.

Now they are appealing to Chorley Guardian readers in the hope that someone will be able to help.

If anyone has a model, between 25cm (10 in) and 60cm (2ft) long, the Heritage Centre committee would love to hear from you.

It would go on display, in a secure cabinet, from March 26 to April 30 and full ownership will be acknowledged in the display.

To contact the Heritage Group call 01257 263245 or 277935.
