Feedback: Council officers Mike Eastham and Paul Peckham at one of the Leyland Roadshows

Hundreds of residents have spoken out about potential future plans for South Ribble.

A two-month consultation about where people want new homes, shops and facilities to be built in the next 15 years drew to a close last week.

Around 600 representations were put forward from residents, community groups and organisations about 200 sites across the borough, which were put forward by developers and landowners.

People also had the chance to outline which areas they would like to see protected from development as part of the Local Development Framework process.

Coun Cliff Hughes, cabinet member with responsibility for strategic planning and housing, said: “I am delighted that so many people took this opportunity to play a part in directing the future of South Ribble for the next 15 years, and I thank everyone very much for their input.

“We worked very hard to ensure as many people as possible had the chance to have their say, and more people got involved in this process than ever before.”

Councillors and their constituents packed out meeting halls and attended special roadshows, drop-in sessions and activities throughout December and January across Leyland, Penwortham and Bamber Bridge to air their views.

The responses received will allow the council to draw up a plan for the future development of services and land usage in South Ribble.

Coun Hughes added: “This stage of the consultation has drawn to a close, but if there are any issues which people still feel strongly about, I would encourage them to get in touch with us or attend their area committee meetings.”

The council will now analyse everyone’s feedback to draw up a list of preferred options later in the year, when people will again be asked for feedback, before making it public.
