Meet the pensioners who have rebuilt some of history's greatest war planes - in their Chorley garage!
Dave Swarbrick and Harold Dowbekin are the hobby engineers who have helped bring the Battle of Britain and Pearl Harbour to life at countless events.

The two friends have been rebuilding original aircraft for decades and were even asked to give advice to Hollywood director Steven Spielberg for his 1987 film 'Empire of The Sun'.

A year ago, the pair started making a model of the 1947 US Panther jet used in the Korean War, which is close to being completed.

Once finished, the plane will have a wingspan of 9ft 8ins and will shoot through the sky at a speed of 150mph.

Harold, of Little Carr Lane, Chorley, has been a member of the Blackpool and Fylde Radio Control Model Society for decades and stayed tee-total to pay for his hobby.

The 83-year-old, who started building model planes the 1940s, said: "We don't drink, we don't smoke and are spending a lot of money on building planes, which cost several thousand pounds.

"They are priceless to us because we spend hundreds of hours of work on them, that's why we wouldn't ever sell them.

"It's just for pleasure and we have set up a workshop in my garage where we meet up regularly to work on our planes."

He added: "We were approached by Steven Spielberg's people to give advice but it never came to fruition, which is a shame because we could have made a lot of money."

Dave has been a member of Blackpool and Fylde Radio Control Model Society since 1973 and has been its chairman since 2006.

He said: "We're always organising events and are looking for new members who are interested in what we do."

Harold's wife Lilian said: "I don' get involved in the building of the planes but I supply them with tea and butties - I also sweep up the mess they make afterwards!"
