A groundbreaking pub is hoping to bring a bit of Hollywood glamour to Chorley with the launch of its very own film festival.
The Imperial, in Union Street, is hosting a specialist film festival showcasing the best short films from some of the world's most promising directors.

The concept, which has been dubbed 'Over-Exposure', follows on from the success of live music nights at the popular pub and the first event is taking place later this month.

Organiser Michael Whalley, 20, from Kimberley Street, Coppull, said: "Basically I am just a massive film buff and I thought I want to try and do something different.

"No one is doing anything like this in Chorley and there are some really great short films out there, so we decided to try and get them shown.

"The Exposure music nights have been a massive success and hopefully the film nights will be an extension of that.

"Everyone loves films, so it's really exciting to be able to show these shorts that people might not otherwise get a chance to see."

The first event will take place between 8-11pm on Monday, September 29 and will feature Chris Morris' BAFTA award-winning film 'My Wrongs,' staring Paddy Considine.

Also, the organisers are hoping to show a selection of short films directed by budding Brinscall filmmaker Randolph Booth, who is putting the finishing touches to his independently produced comedies.

The pair say they will host film nights once a month if the first screening is a success.

Michael, who is currently at college training to become a bricklayer, said: "I'm really excited to be involved in this project.

"People don't realise how many great short films there are out there because they don't get the exposure of commercial feature length films. But at the end of the day this is how most directors start off.

"Hopefully the idea will take off and we'll be able to do more of these in the future."
