Leyland students given parking offer

The parking problems at Runshaw College in Leyand could be soon a thing of the past after a local football club suggested using their own facilities.
Euxton Villa FC are planning to offer their vacant parking spaces during the week.
Chairman Graham Keyte told the Guardian that they were prepared to do something to ease the problems faced by students not able to park on the college complex and surrounding areas.
He said: "Lots of people are migrating from Tesco and Worden Park to go to the college but we will be opening our gates for parking.
"We have a car park available which has about 120 spaces so we are going to start opening the gates and charge set rates for days and for a week but we will have to cover our overheads including staffing the ground to offer the parking.
"We are looking to have a nominal fee of £5 which works out at £1 a day. We feel the students will want to use it and depending on its success we could reduce the price of it."
The football club is less than half a mile from the Langdale Road campus and Mr Keyte said several students already walk or cycle to Leyland.
It will be a win-win situation for both the club and the students as the club view it as a chance to improve their finances.
He said: "We have a new clubhouse but as time goes on we are going to need to do work to it so this is an ideal situation and we are on private land.
"We have some student and volunteers from the college and we are determined to continue to work with them in the future and offer this
service to staff as well."
However one concern will be the increased traffic flow and congestion along Runshaw Hall Lane but Graham admits it is hypothetical
He said: "We will have to wait and see whether it is a success or not but traffic congestion is one area we will monitor this week."
