Residents in South Ribble are being warned to be on their guard for con artists posing as collectors for a well known charity.
Managers at St Catherine's Hospice in Lostock Hall are urging householders to be on the look-out for people claiming to raise funds for cancer patients.

Residents in Leyland recently became suspicious of doorstep collectors who claimed to be from the hospice on Lostock Lane, but did not have any ID to prove it.

It is not known how much money has been collected fraudulently but residents are being urged to be vigilant.

The most recent case was reported on Wednesday in the area around Kingsway and Cumberland Avenue in Leyland and it us understood that two youths as well as a woman were involved.

John Nickson, head of appeals at the St Catherine's, said: "We have had reports of people going door-to-door in Leyland, claiming to be collecting on behalf of St Catherine's when they have no authorisation.

"Unfortunately this does happen now and again and particularly so before Christmas."
