A Leyland youngster whose dad was killed in a motorcycle crash last year had something to smile with a VIP trip to the home of Liverpool Football Club.
Seven-year-old Pacie Wright-Hamilton lost his father, David Hamilton, in a motorcycle smash 12 months ago.

His story was read by Alan Walmsley, 69, from Leyland, whose 15-year-old grand-daughter Jessica Knight was stabbled in Chorley in January.

When he was offered tickets for a behind-the-scenes tour of Liverpool's famous Anfield ground he decided to see if Pacie and his mum Kelly Wright wanted to join him and Jess.

The result was an unforgettable day that really put a smile on Pacie's face.

His grandmother Anne Hamilton, said: "He really enjoyed it and was telling everybody when he came back. It's something that he needed to pick him up and he will remember it for a long, long time."

Explaining how the trip came about Mr Walmsley said: "Liverpool had invited us to tour the museum and the ground and when I saw the article in the Guardian with Pacie in his football shirt, I asked if we could bring more people.

"When they agreed, Pacie was absolutely made up and they were both given a one-on-one tour. It was absolutely brilliant, and afterwards we had a meal in town with Pacie and his mum Kelly.

"They were shown round the trophy room, the changing rooms, and the famous old boot room. It was the first time Pacie had been to the ground and he loved watching the videos of some of Liverpool's greatest victories. Jess - an Evertonian - thoroughly enjoyed it and even put on a Fernando Torres' shirt!

"It was a tremendous gesture on Liverpool's part."

The team was away in London preparing for the Champions League semi-final second leg and Jess took the opportunity to sit in manager Rafa Benitez's seat.

Alan added: "It was a real eye-opener to have a good look round and they were brilliant, really taking their time with Jess and Pacie."
