Winter fun for families

Waiting for Video...

The wintry weather provided the perfect backdrop for snowball fights and sledging as families braved the snow.

Worden Park in Leyland was the centre of the action as youngsters, families and dog walkers descended to make the most of the inches of snow that blanketed the park.

Nine-month-old Seth Kelly was out with his family including mum Sarah to enjoy his first taste of snow.

She said: “It is his first experience of snow and he loves it. He has been playing in it all morning. We have been out to buy the sledge especially and we have been pulling him round on it. We’re making the most and having some fun while it lasts.”

Audrey Brownsea, 77, was out with husband Hugh, 81, in Worden Park.

The couple, of Shaw Brook Road, Leyland, were taking their usual walk into Leyland - but this time with three inches of snow under foot.

Audrey said: “There is a lot of snow. We were really surprised when we drew back our curtains in the morning.

“We are heading in to Leyland to do some shopping and then we will be getting a taxi back. It’s a beautiful park, and we love it in the summer, but it can get a bit dangerous to walk on when there is so much snow.

“It is nice to see people enjoying it.”

Withy Grove Park in Bamber Bridge and Moor Park in Preston also enjoyed visitors keen to take a walk in the white stuff.

Meanwhile Finlay Belsham, two, found an unusual way to get around Leyland town centre - being pulled on a sledge by his grandma. The youngster and grandma Beverley Yates were out with mum Amy enjoying a snow day. Beverley, from Leyland, said: “My dad made the sledge a long time ago, it must be 45 years old! We dug it out to pull him around on.

“Finlay is loving the snow. We can’t decide where to go yet so are just heading out on the sledge until we can decide.”
