More than a century of teaching experience will come to an end when five teachers finally leave a Leyland high school.

Head of music Eirlys Roberts, head of geography Dave Childs, head of modern languages Carol Powell, music teacher Harrison Clegg and food technology teacher Sue Barker will all be saying goodbye to Balshaw’s CE High School on Church Road at the end of the current academic year.

Headteacher Jo Venn said the teachers have clocked up more than 120 years of teaching between them and an event was being planned to say goodbye.

“We will be sad to see them go,” said Ms Venn. “Mr Childs has been here all his teaching career, which is more than 30 years.

“Miss Roberts has been here since the 1970s, as has Mrs Powell, who was also a pupil.

“They have become part of the family and we are in the process of replacing them.

“So far we have had more than 40 applications for the head of music role.”
