300 APPLICATIONS have been received for just 40 jobs at a new Leyland pub.
The Leyland Lion is due to open on Hough Lane in two weeks time and applications have been flooding in from hopefuls looking to fill posts.
Work is still ongoing at the site ahead of its official unveiling on October 18 but the building now has new themed signs at the front which represent Leyland’s long motoring history, and a sign depicting a Leyland Lion bus.
Inside the building, which is the town’s former post office, builders are carrying out work including installing a bar and other fixtures.
Applications for the 40 jobs at the Wetherspoon chain began flooding in when signs were put up two weeks ago saying they were recruiting.
Wetherspoons spokesperson Eddie Gershon said: “We are obviously thrilled that so many people have applied for the new jobs in Leyland.
“The number of applications is a reflection of Wetherspoons being a good employer but also on the current economic climate.
“For every person that is successful, we are disappointed there will be some who are not successful, so we would always encourage them to apply for positions at our 50 new pubs that open every year should they wish.”
