730 days and it is still a mess

IT’S the anniversary that no one in Leyland is celebrating.

Two years ago – or 730 days to be precise – a giant hole appeared in the ground on Leyland’s Chapel Brow and destabilised a nearby takeaway.

Now, the crumbling building is still no closer to being fixed and tired residents say they have given up hope of the problem ever going away.

They have also warned that the dilapidated building is a serious accident waiting to happen.

Pip Flynn, who lives on nearby Fleetwood Street, said: “We’re thinking about baking a cake for the anniversary to cheer ourselves up. Everyone is completely fed up and people on the street are just resigned to the fact it’s going to stay like this.”

It was July 2009 when the busy street was the scene of an emergency operation when a sewer collapsed next to the Shadh takeaway.
