A brother and sister team have opened the doors to a new restaurant in a Chorley village.

Jack and Holly Catterall have just relaunched the former Wan’s Cantonese above the Dresser’s Arms in Wheelton as Oriental restaurant Little Hong Kong.

It’s a far cry from the former life of Jack, 25, who has just returned from Melbourne after a six-month stint playing first team cricket for East Keilor Cricket Club.

Sister Holly, 23, also has other business interests - and will run the eatery as well as continuing as an assistant designer at building firm Redrow Homes.

They will be helped in the venture by mum Lorna and dad David. The family were inspired to take on the culinary adventure after family holidays in the Far East, and being regular customers at the former restaurant, Wan’s Cantonese, which closed when the owner retired.

Holly said: “Having known Wan for many years, we were amongst the first to hear of her retirement and we considered the opportunity to purchase the lease very carefully before going ahead.

“We have been overwhelmed at the amazing support from the local community, not least from Steve and Trudie Turner of the Dresser’s Arms who have more than supported us in completing the gaps in our knowledge.”

The restaurant, on Briers Brow, officially opened on Tuesday, May 1 to a packed house.

Holly said: “Our opening night was daunting as there was a lot to do to make sure we were ready to open on time, but we did and the feedback we have received so far has been overwhelming.”

The family, from Wheelton, have appointed head chef Jian Liu, formerly of award-winning Pacific Restaurant in Manchester’s China Town as well as keeping on former team members of Wan’s Cantonese, Alan Yau and Lo Ping Gua.

The restaurant has undergone a complete refurbishment inside and has been fully designed by mum Lorna with help from Dawnvale Ltd, whose previous projects include designing the swanky Living Room in Manchester.

The team say they have brought in a whole new menu which includes bringing fresh fish and seafood in daily from Fleetwood.

Alongside the traditional cuisine the team will also be offering wine, Champagne and cocktails.
