It was a stellar performance when a group of amateur astronomers got together and saturned back the clock to the marsvellous 1980s.

Amanda Cross, Euxtronomy group secretary, said: “It was a great night.

“We were fund raising for our group with a goal to build an observatory in Euxton.”

Euxtronomy – the Euxton Astronomy Group – was formed on February 1, 2015 and is open to anyone who has an interest in the night sky.

Its aims are to share a common knowledge and interest in what is probably the most studied subject in human history.

All levels of interest are welcome.

The major fund raising programme for the state-of the art observatory is the vision of group founder Steve Berry, of Chestnut Avenue, Euxton.

He said: “It’s not ambitious to me. I’m very confident that if we can get enough people behind it, it will turn into something really special.”

The busy group’s next event is An Introduction to Astronomy presented by Robert Ince by at Euxton Parish Church Community Centre, Euxton, on Thursday, June 9, from 7.30pm. All are welcome.
