Buckshaw lights up at Christmas celebration

Hailstones, rain and wind did not stop Father Christmas meeting hundreds of excited children in Buckshaw Village.

He went on a tour of the area on Sunday, stopping at each of the parks and Main Square to talk to youngsters and have photographs taken.

Father Christmas then went to Buckshaw Village Community Centre, where he switched on the Christmas lights with James Gwyn-Thomas, minister at Buckshaw Village Church.

Around 1,000 people enjoyed the free community event, which included Santa’s grotto, 25 stalls selling a range of goods, carols, music by Buckshaw Youth Band, a raffle and refreshments.

The money is still being counted, but it is hoped the event raised between £250 and £500 for future events and community projects.

Craig Lee, chairman of Buckshaw Village Community Association, said: “It was fantastic, a really well attended event.

“Residents really came out in force to show their support for the association, especially considering the weather wasn’t the best.”

He thanked the sponsors and everyone involved.
