A couple are hoping their new business in Adlington will flourish.

After a 22-year career in the public sector, Helen Brown, 43, decided to go back to her roots in her hometown and open a florists.

She said: “I’d really got to a point where I’d had enough and fancied a change. My husband and I have been through some sudden bereavements and we wanted a life change. Now I’m finally fulfilling my dream.

“Floristry is something I’d always wanted to do and we were lucky enough to find a business for sale in Adlington.”

Helen and Andy, a former stall holder at Chorley Market, have rebranded the former Budz Floral Design to Budz by Helen Jane.

They officially opened with an open night and charity evening on Wednesday and as a result they handed over £200 for the charity The Witches of Adlington who raise money for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation at the Royal Preston Hospital.

Helen said: “We wanted to give something back to the community at our opening and we know all about the great work that the Witches of Adlington do.

“Despite the recession, we hope we can be a big success.”

Helen inherited her green fingers from her mother, who also had a floristry business in Adlington. She sadly past away when Helen was 26.

“I think it was something I might have gone into had it not been for my mum,” said Helen. “She always thought I should have a career in my own right and I did,”

Even though Helen worked in human resources, she always had a talent for floristry and kept her skills sharp.

“I did my own wedding flowers but what really triggered the idea for the business was when my friend’s daughter asked me to do her wedding flowers for next year,” she said. “I’ve always had a creative side and I thought that it was getting neglected at my old job.”

Helen has attended training courses run by florist Ian Lloyd, star of Britain’s Got Talent 2009.

“He really restored my confidence in my floristry, he was so enthusiastic.”

Budz by Helen Jane is now open for business on Church Street, Adlington. and is taking orders.
