A Withnell hair salon is defying the recession and expanding after a rebrand earlier this year.
Foster and Gray Hair Design, on Bury Lane, changed its name from Hacienda in an attempt to broaden its appeal.
Owner Danielle Gray has introduced a range of new products and will open a second salon, located in The Hub development in Buckshaw Village, in mid-July. Danielle, 26, said: “I wanted to freshen up the salon a bit. I brought in a new product from London, the six-month blow dry, also known as the Brazilian blow dry.
“It eliminates frizz and curls, adds shine, and makes hair slicker and straighter. It also lasts for up to six months, so it cuts down the amount of work clients have to do at home.
“We also started stocking GHD straighteners. Katy Perry is the new face of them at the moment, so they’re quite fashionable.”
For Danielle, who has worked at the Withnell salon since she opened it aged 19, the new salon in Buckshaw Village is the biggest step to date.
Danielle said: “It makes us much more accessible, as we’re quite out of the way in Withnell. I get a lot of referrals, and I might start losing some of them if people can’t get to the salon.
“My clients come from as far afield as Preston and Longridge, so Buckshaw Village will be easier for them to get to.”
Danielle, who currently has two members of staff, will be splitting her time between the two shops.
The busy Foster and Gray team have also started offering other services, such as Pamper and Play at Rascal’s play centre in Preston, allowing mums to have a range of beauty treatments while their children play.
Danielle recently did her first wedding fair, and hopes to enter a number of competitions this summer.
She also hopes to enter a competition called Matrix Destination Fame, which offers a year’s mentoring from a celebrity hairdresser.
Danielle stressed the business’ success is built on the support of her family, including husband Luke and son Kian, and her clients.
She said: “I get massive support, with my mum having Kian, so I can come into the salon, and Luke putting Kian to bed and being at home on the nights I’m out until 9pm.”
