A beauty salon manager is celebrating six years of success next month.
Michelle O’Neill owns Head 2 Toe in Adlington, and says she can’t believe how much her team of three has achieved during the recession.
She said: “If you told me six years ago that my business would be this successful, I don’t think I would have believed you. Amazingly, the recession actually did us a lot of good.
“We got more clients because people who used to go to more expensive places couldn’t afford it, so they came down to our level.
“Because we offer the same service and products, they’ve stayed, and we now have over 500 customers.
“We really benefited from the so-called recession in that sense.”
The 42-year-old opened the shop by herself on April 5, 2005, and employed Julie Ogden and Natalie Wilkins afterwards.
Natalie was just 14 at the time, and signed on as an apprentice, but she’s now 19 and a fully-qualified beautician and nail technician.
Michelle says the salon is unique in its layout, as it’s based at the back of a pub on Station Road, in the hub of an old coach house.
“It is quite different, and the salon is spread over three floors,” she said. “We even have a special eyelash room on the top level, because those treatments are so popular at the moment.”
She said that eyelash extensions are the next big thing, and will be as fashionable as fancy nails in the near future.
“We have to keep up with current trends,” she said. “But we avoid getting involved in some treatments which we think are just a passing craze.
“Like the fish pedicures - I think they’re just a novelty at the moment.”
Michelle has worked in the industry for 17 years, and has taken her expertise to the ExCel London Beauty Show. She’s also planning to go to Birmingham’s NEC show next month.
