South Ribble’s Mayor says she has never seen Leyland so full of happy faces than when she paid a visit to the special Christmas celebrations on Saturday.
Coun Dorothy Gardner said: “It was really fantastic. The atmosphere was just electric, it really was.
“There were hundreds of people about, and the queues to see Santa were huge.
“They’d wrapped 150 presents beforehand and they had to do another 100 on the day because the grotto was so popular.
“There was also a lantern parade through the town lead by a donkey, with children dressed in nativity outfits, and a Christingle service at the United Reformed Church.
“It was just magical.”
The Christmas lights were also switched on during the event, and there were plenty of children’s craft activities, as well as a mini fairground, taking place in small shops and at the market throughout the day.
To top off the festivities, a mini version of Leyland Live was also held in the evening, with live acts performing at venues around the town centre.
