A 79-year-old man and his 80-year-old wife are in hospital with serious injuries after their car collided with a lamppost in Leyland.
The incident happened at around 11.50am yesterday morning (Tuesday) on Schleswig Way between Slater Lane and Leyland Lane.
A blue Volkswagen Polo was travelling down the road from Preston when it has collided with a lamppost.
The male driver and his passenger were both taken to the Royal Preston Hospital with serious injuries.
The man is believed to have suffered a chest injury and the woman a possible stroke.
North West Ambulance Service sent two ambulances to the scene.
A spokesman said: “It was reported in the log as a 79-year-old man with a chest injury.
“The hospital was put on standby and he was taken to hospital.
“The 80-year-old woman’s injuries were reported as a stroke query.”
Sergeant James Power from the Road Policing Unit added: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward and contact the police. “An investigation is underway to establish exactly what happened.
“The family of the couple have been informed and we have specially trained officers supporting them at this difficult time and will continue to do so.”
