Ramble raises Rainbow cash

A fundraising walk was held at the weekend to try and raise much-needed funds for Legacy Rainbow House.

The Mawdesley-based children's charity is trying to raise 1m this year and says the first ever Rainbow Ramble was a key part of their plans.

The ramble, on Saturday May 16, was a 20-mile fun walk or run through the beautiful Lancashire countryside surrounding The Legacy centre in Mawdesley.

Joe Mawdsley, founder and chief executive of the charity said: "It was a really good day. We had about 150 people take part, including families, local residents and some of the children we have here at the centre.

"Some of the children we have here even took part in their wheelchairs.

"There were a couple of showers but it was otherwise dry and was a big success. We'll definitely do it again next year."

Joe said they were still counting the sponsorship money from the event but said they'd raised a significant sum, which she said was vital.

"We have been severely affected by the current economic climate and we need more funding so that we can continue our day-to-day services," she explained.

"Our appeal for 1 million, launched in April, has raised awareness of our predicament and we have had some success in bringing in more funds - but we need more help!"

The ramble was followed by a free hog roast supper for all those taking part.
