Amazing, fabulous and fantastic.
They were the first three words to come to mind to describe the performance of Rent at Chorley Little Theatre.
On Saturday night I didn't know what to expect from the latest Chorley Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society production, despite having seen lots of other wonderful productions at the theatre over the years.
However, the venue has had to undergo a lot of very public repair work of late and volunteers have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure everything was perfect for Rent.
Would they succeed? Would it all be too much?
Well, I needn't have worried as this was one of the best shows I've seen.
Directed by Liz Kenworthy and musically led by the wonderful Karl Pendlebury, it was hard to believe that this was an amateur production.
Rent is a rock musical based on Puccini's opera La Boheme.
It tells a story of love and loyalty among a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side under the shadow of Aids.
Special mentions must go to the amazing Cathy Higgin (Mimi Marquez) and talented and handsome Graham Hope (Roger Davis) who played their parts beautifully.
Without giving too much away I actually believed the relationship and was very nearly moved to tears.
The fabulous Chen Ko stole the show as the cross-dressing Angel Schunard and a mention also for the brilliant Natalie Crompton as Maureen.
The show does contain adult themes and strong language so is not for everybody.
However, if you want to be entertained by an amazingly talented cast for a tenner then buy a ticket.
