Christmas shoppers will enjoy free parking in Leyland again this year in a bid to boost the local economy.
South Ribble Council’s cabinet agreed last week that parking would be free during the two weeks running up to Christmas in Leyland town centre and Lostock Hall.
It is hoped the moved will attract more shoppers to the town and help out local businesses.
Coun Peter Mullineaux, (pictured) Deputy Leader of the council, and cabinet member for Neighbourhoods and Street Scene, said: “We are always keen to help our local shops and businesses in whatever way we can and this is our Christmas gift to them.
“Offering free parking worked really well last year with lots of traders reporting increased business and a really great bustling atmosphere in the town. It also helps shoppers out, saving them a bit of money at an expensive time of year.”
The free car parks will be:
- Churchill Way, Leyland
- Ecroyd Street, Leyland
- Sumner Street, Leyland
- King Street, Leyland
- Hope Terrace, Lostock Hall
Free parking will begin at 10am on all week days and weekends to discourage commuter parking.
