Gas explosion worry after car crash

Firefighters were called out to prevent a gas explosion, following a two-car crash in Leyland this weekend.

The accident in Leyland Lane at 10.21am yesterday forced one car off the road, where it hit and cracked a mains gas meter supplying nearby houses.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: “The car was lying on top of the equipment and the gas was coming out at a pressure of around seven bar, which if ignited, could result in an explosion.

“We made sure the area was safe while gas engineers arrived on the scene.”

Nobody was injured.
