Guardian iphone app bigger and better

The Chorley and Leyland Guardian’s iPhone app has just got even better - and it’s still absolutely free.

We’ve been working with Concept4, the North West’s leading app developer, on improving our app ahead of applying to try to get it included on the official App Store.

We launched the app last year and it’s that estimated hundreds of people have downloaded it straight onto their iPhones.

However, the app has now been improved to include photos and images and made more user-friendly.

It still includes three sections - Chorley news, Leyland news and sport - and is linked to the Guardian’s website.

The benefit of the app is that it allows people to stay bang up-to-date with the latest news wherever they are.

Alex Buck, of Concept4, said: “We joined up with the Chorley and Leyland Guardian last year to create the mobile app.

“The partnership has worked successfully due to the combined expertise of both parties, with Concept4 bringing to the table the creative and technical project management.

“This is an exciting project for us to work on and the aim is to increase revenue and marketing and this will be a fantastic project to measure.”

Guardian editor Chris Maguire said: “We were delighted when we launched the app in 2010 because we were one of the first regional papers to take the step.

“It’s not an alternative to the printed product or the website but it’s a way of strengthening our market share.

“The new-look app has all the best bits of the old one but now looks even more professional.

“We’ve applied to get the app on the App Store, which will make it even easier to download.

“I can’t recommend Concept4 enough because they’ve taken our ideas and turned them into something special.

“It’s now 140 years since the Chorley Guardian was launched and we’re still striving to improve what we offer our loyal readers.

“We’re also planning to upload more stories to the app so I’d urge people to give it a try.”

To download the app follow these simple steps:

* Navigate to http://chorleyguardian.concept4.com

* Click ‘add to home screen’

* It will then create the icon on the iPhone.
