How to recover unfair charges
Banks make more than £40bn in profit - a figure which is partly due to the fees that they charge for anything and everything.
However the Consumer Champion has a few tips on how to get some of your money back if you feel you've been unfairly treated.
The best way to proceed is to send a letter giving details of your name, address, account number and sort code as well as details of your complaint to your bank's customer service department.
You should clearly state the circumstances of why the charge should not apply and also what you would like the bank to do to settle your complaint.
Under rules issued by the Financial Services Ombudsman they have a duty to send a final reply within at least eight weeks. If unsuccessful, why not contact the Champ on 01257 264911 or email guardiannews@lep.co.uk.
