A loveable musician’s appearance on a reality television show has captured the heart of the nation.
Graham Blackledge, who works at Rimmers Music, in Leyland, proved that Britain really has got talent when he performed La Bamba on the hit ITV show on Saturday night.
The dad-of-four took to Blackpool Opera House’s stage to wow the judges with his organ act, and instead found himself charming the crowd with his wicked sense of humour and natural ability as a stand-up comedian.
While Simon Cowell remained unimpressed, Graham’s cheeky personality was enough to impress Alesha Dixon and David Walliams, and win him a ticket into the next round of the competition.
Graham, 42, who has worked at Rimmers for about 26 years, said: “I was just at home with my wife Amanda, having a takeaway as you do, and then the Britain’s Got Talent advert flashed up on telly and I said ‘I am going to enter that.
“To get two yes is amazing – I am over the moon and really excited. I didn’t imagine it would happen, and I thought Simon would buzz me before I even got to the organ. It was nerve-wracking, but exciting as well.
“The audience were absolutely brilliant, and really got on my side. I can’t thank them enough, as they made my experience awesome – it was so electric.
“The judges are all dead nice.
“I am working on some ideas, in case I do get through.”
Although Graham understands that he could leave the competition at any time, he is now hopeful that his television stint will lead to other opportunities.
He is open to the idea of presenting, continuing his music career, and said that he is definitely up for some ‘sit-down’, rather than stand-up, comedy stints.
Colleagues of Graham have been singing his praises since the show and are delighted that he has made such an impact on the general public.
Adam Blackledge, 32, who teaches at Rimmers Music, said: “I was surprised but really chuffed for him. I’m dead proud, and good on him.
“He was pretty damn funny.”
Graham will find out at the weekend if he has made it through to the next part of the competition.
