Plans to demolish an aging Runshaw College building and replace it with a £1.5m ‘employability skills centre’ have been passed.

The Borrowdale building in Langdale Road, Leyland, will be pulled down in July, and work is expected to last around eight months.

The state-of-the -art facility will include classrooms and a cafe, and will be used for training in essential skills to gain employment.

South Ribble Council initially approved plans for the Borrowdale unit to be demolished and replaced with a performing arts centre and theatre for the college, but Runshaw later said that was no longer a viable option because of funding restraints.
