15,000 NHS dentist places pledged

Thousands of people across South Ribble could soon have access to a new NHS dentist after plans were unveiled for a new practice in Leyland.

ADP Dental Company Ltd has submitted an application to turn a retail unit in Leyland town centre into a dental surgery, which would provide vital services for up to 15,000 new patients across the area.

The company has already invested approximately 250,000 into the scheme ahead of a possible grand opening next month, and health bosses say the plans could solve the area's growing shortage of NHS dentists.

Work is currently underway renovating the Towngate site but the plans still have to go before South Ribble's planning committee for a final decision later this month.

Tim Ball, North West regional manager of ADP Dental, said: "We are very happy to be working together with the Central Lancashire Primary Care Trust to deliver dental services for the people of Chorley and Leyland.

"The plans are still awaiting approval from the council but we are confident we will be able to go ahead."

All patients will be able to receive care on the NHS and there will be three dentists working at the practice, which will be situated adjacent to the Netto supermarket in the town centre.
