Police are appealing for information following a distraction theft in Leyland.

The incident happened on Saturday, March 17, at around 10.05am at a cash machine outside the Lloyds TSB cash machine on Hough Lane.

A 78-year-man was using the cash machine when he was distracted by a man who was waving a foreign note at him.

The offender managed to get the victim away from the cash machine and as he did this, another man stole the money that the victim had just withdrawn.

The two men then left the scene with the victim’s £200 in cash.

A similar incident happened later that day at the Royal Bank of Scotland on Fishergate in Preston at around 11.10am where a 63 year old woman was conned out of £200.

PC Emma Devereux, from South Ribble Police, said: “I would appeal to anyone who recognises the picture of this man to come forward and contact the police.

“Although not hurt, the victim has been left shaken following his ordeal and the people responsible need to be caught.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Lancashire police on 101.

People with information can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org.

No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
