A Disney farewell for battling Katy

A young girl whose battle with a brain tumour touched the hearts of thousands of people will have a funeral fit for a Disney princess.
Katy Holmes, 10, died last Thursday at the Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chancery Road.
Her family has now issued an open invitation to anyone who wants to say their goodbyes to attend the funeral service.
In keeping with Katy’s bright and colourful personality, her parents are urging people to wear something Disney-related or a fancy dress outfit.
People are also being asked to bring a helium balloon with a message tied to it which will be released after the funeral service.
Katy, from Penwortham, had enjoyed a wonderful family holiday to Florida and visited Disney World only weeks before the shock diagnosis of the brain tumour.
Mum Paula, who is married to David and also has daughters Charley, eight and six-week-old baby Scarlet, said: “We are having a Disney theme and ask that everyone wears something Disney whether its a pair of socks, cufflinks, T-shirt or a fancy dress outfit.
“Let’s keep it bright and colourful like Katy was.
“If possible, can you also fetch a helium balloon, preferably Disney or blue, and tie a message to it?
“We can then release them all together.
“We are finding it all very difficult and are trying to focus on giving Katy the best possible send-off as she deserves.”
The funeral will be on Tuesday January 31 at St Teresa’s Church in Penwortham at 11am.
It will be followed by Hill Road Cemetery for the burial.
The family have respectfully asked that it is family only at the graveside.
Only those closest to them should attend the wake afterwards which is by invitation only.
