Appeal after Leyland sex attack

A teenager was subjected to a serious sexual assault in a dark alley.

Detectives in Leyland are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was attacked in an alleyway off Sandy Lane and Haydock Avenue.

The attacker approached the girl as she walked along Broadway where he spoke to her before following her into an alley where he attacked her.

It is thought both the attacker and the victim would have walked from Canberra Road before turning on to Broadway and it is believed the attacker returned on to Sandy Lane and Broadway after the attack.

He is described as being white, approximately 30 years of age, around five ft 10in tall, of medium build with short dark hair and stubble on his chin.

He was wearing a checked shirt with blue jeans.

The attacked happened between 12.50am and 1.15am on Sunday June 27 but police have only just released details.

DI Marc Nasser of Leyland CID, said: "We believe that while the victim was still in the alleyway with the offender, another man walked past and spoke to them.

"It is possible that this man could have seen the attack taking place and I would strongly urge that person to contact the police as soon as possible.

"This man was described as wearing a yellow top, sunglasses and shorts."

In a separate attack police in Preston have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with a sexual assault, which took place at the junction of Jackson Street close to the Flag Market, at 5.20am on June 26.

The victim was grabbed from behind by an Asian man who then ran away in the direction of the covered market.

Anybody with information should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
