Armed robbery at Spar

Police in Leyland are appealing for information following an armed robbery at the Spar store on Leyland Lane.

At around 9.55pm on Saturday night (April 14), two men went into the store, one armed with a hammer and the other with a knife and demanded money and cigarettes.

The men, who had their faces covered threatened the staff and customers and took a large amount of money and cigarettes before running from the shop.

An investigation has been launched and detectives are appealing to anyone with any information to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Ian Derbyshire of Leyland CID said, “We believe the two men were only in the store for a few minutes and would have left the store about 10pm so I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area around that time that saw anything suspicious to come forward and contact us.

“Similarly, if anyone saw any suspicious activity in the area either on the day or in the days leading up to the incident then we would be very keen to speak to you.

“Fortunately, nobody was hurt although the staff and the customers who were in the store at the time have been left shocked following what can only be described as a terrifying ordeal so if anyone does have any information then I would urge them to contact the police.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on the new non-emergency number 101 or alternatively, information can be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org.

No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
