Bicycle lights handed out

Over 100 bicycle lights have been handed out to cyclists in Croston, Bretherton and Ulnes Walton in a bid to keep them safe on the county’s roads.

Funded by Warburtons, Croston Parish Council, Eccleston Parish Council and Villages in Partnership, the lights were handed out by the local neighbourhood policing team.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Maria Fetherstone said: “All too often we see cyclists riding their bikes without any reflective clothing or lighting. This not only puts the cyclist in imminent danger but also the drivers of other vehicles.

“It is very important to have and to use bicycle lights when out and about on your bike. They can prevent accidents from occurring, ultimately avoiding people being injured on our roads.”

Cycling helmets and high visibility wrist straps have also been handed out to cyclists in the area recently by the neighbourhood policing teams.
