An alcoholic woman who twice made hoax bomb threats about a Leyland supermarket was disgruntled because they had refused to serve her, a court heard.

Shaunna Spedding (pictured), 27, of The Square, School Street, Farington, was jailed for 43 weeks at Preston Crown Court after a judge heard she had only been warned about making the first threat 10 days before committing the next hoax.

In each case her mother, with whom she was living after coming out of prison, told the authorities she had been drinking.

Prosecuting Jeremy Grout-Smith said: “A police operator received a call just before 11pm on February 17 saying: ‘I don’t know how to tell you this but there’s a bomb’. She said it was in Tesco in Leyland.

When officers visited the house Spedding was warned about wasting police time. But 10 days later, at 5pm on February 27, another police operator received a call .

On this occasion police did notify the store manager and said they suspected it was a hoax.

He did not evacuate the store but carried out a search for suspicious packages.

Spedding will have 134 days already spent in prison reduced from sentence.
