Leyland councillors Michael McNulty, and below, Sarah Tomlinson, have resigned

By-elections will be held in three wards of South Ribble - including two in Leyland - following the resignations of three borough councillors.

Coun Michael McNulty (Leyland St Mary’s), Coun Sarah Tomlinson (Leyland St Ambrose) and Coun Mary Robinson (Howick and Priory) have all stepped down, creating a vacancy in their respective wards.

The by-elections will take place on Thursday, May 2, to coincide with the Lancashire County Council elections on the same day.

Coun McNulty was first elected to the council in April 2004 and served on a number of committees.

He was vice-chair of the council’s former grants committee between 2007 and 2008, and chaired the former Leyland East area committee from 2007-2011.

Coun Tomlinson was elected to the council in May 2011 and also served on a number of committees.

Coun Robinson joined the council in May 2007 and served on a wide range of committees.

She chaired the council’s scrutiny committee from 2009-2011, and had been vice chair of the general licensing committee since 2011.

Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer at South Ribble Council’s Civic Centre on West Paddock, Leyland, by noon on Friday, April 5.
