Planning permission has been granted for a first floor extension to provide more bedrooms and facilities at Lostock Grove Rest Home in Slater Lane, Leyland.
It follows a ground-floor extension in December 2010.
Three residents objected to the plans, with regards to loss of light and privacy, traffic and parking problems in the surrounding streets, and overgrown trees on the site.
To address these issues, it has been decided that a sycamore tree be removed to give more room for refuse vehicles to turn around in the site, so as not to block Slater Lane.
South Ribble Council added that the care home staff are not allowed to ‘maintain’ the trees, as they are protected.
