A man who saved a cat from a tree in Worden Park has been thanked by its grateful owner.

South Ribble Council arborist Jaimie Almond came to the rescue after worried park visitors spotted the feline 40ft off the ground.

He managed to climb up and get her down but she wriggled free and ran off, and he didn’t know if she’d returned home safely.

The Guardian ran a report at the time, and a reader has now been in touch to let us know that the cat did get home safe and sound.

Dawn Stewart, from Suffolk Close near Worden Park, said: “I’d really like to thank the gentleman for helping her in her hour of need.

“She is actually my son Shane’s cat, and he has recently joined the arm.

“He misses her terribly and if she hadn’t been home for his week’s leave after his passing out parade recently, he would have been distraught.”

Dawn added: “She often walks with myself and our dog around Worden Park, so I was surprised to hear she’d been stuck up a tree!”
