Cheers to the return of town beer festival
John Smith and Stephen Bullock prepare for Leyland's first beer festival at the Commerical Vehicle Museum
A beer festival will be returning to Leyland.
The fourth annual event, which will take place at the British Commercial Vehicle Museum on King Street, will see over 30 beers laid out for punters to enjoy.
The museum took a break from hosting the event last year when it was part of the Leyland Festival, but it’s set to return for a four-day stint.
The event will raise much-needed funds for both the cash-strapped museum and the Leyland Rotary Club.
Stephen Bullock, who is a trustee at the museum, said: “We have over 30 beers coming from all over the country. I’m amazed where they are coming from.
“We’ve got a selection of lagers and ciders which people will be able to enjoy in the museum surrounded by some of our fantastic vehicles.”
The event will be run in conjunction with South Ribble Council and the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) have also helped to set it up.
The bar will be decorated to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee as part of a series of events in the town aimed at ‘celebrating celebrations’.
Stephen said: “We’ve moved about nine vehicles out of the way to make way for this.
“We’ve got a brand new beer for the Preston Guild too which will be having its first outing at our beer festival.
“We try to do different things at the museum. We need to raise money but we also need to make this place fun.
“It keeps everyone going.”
Bosses at the museum say they are hoping to attract thousands to the town for the four-day event.
Stephen said: “We had around 3,000 people over the three night last time we hosted the festival, and we’re hoping for 3,000 to 4,000 this time around.
“It will take a lot of hard work but we’ve got plenty of people to help out.
“More and more people keep coming to us and asking if they can help. We had five new volunteers come to us in January, which is great.”
The festival will run from 12 noon to 11pm from Thursday, March 29 to Sunday, April 1.
Coun Phil Smith, South Ribble Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, leisure and healthy communities, said: “Like many events of this kind, the Leyland Beer Festival tends to attract responsible drinkers who enjoy sampling a range of ales.
“I’m looking forward to another successful event in partnership with the British Commercial Vehicle Museum.”

Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 10:30 AMI attended the Beer Festival last year,i was amazed at some of the beer prices,some of them were nearly a fiver a pint,,and thats after paying to get in.I wouldnt have minded so much, but a lot of these REAL ales are vomit inducing and thats just the smell, so what about making it a bit cheaper for us cash strapped beer lovers.?If not,ill be in the Wetherspoons instead,at least its free entry......T
