An extra £380,000 has been earmarked for making improvements to public open space and masterplanning for the future in South Ribble.

Amendments have been made to South Ribble’s Council budget which will see more cash taken from reserves to fund a number of schemes this year.

Public open space is set to be invested in with a £300,000 boost, whilst another £40,000 will be given to the My Neighbourhood Forums for street furniture, such as signs and bins.

The council is taking £40,000 from the Local Development Framework Reserve for masterplanning for key sites which are to be developed for housing and employment, and a major project to regenerate Penwortham has also been brought forward.

It was expected that £110,000 would be spent on improvements in Penwortham in 2016/17, but that has plan has now been brought forward to take place this financial year (2014/15).

The council is £600,000 better off than it had expected to be at this time, and it hadn’t relied on using the £635,000 from reserves as it had planned last year to balance the books.
