Crime down - that's official!
The Guardian has collated figures released by the Community Safety Partnership for each of Leyland's 10 wards which shows a safer town - although the picture is less positive for youngsters.
The statistics, taken from the Partnership's Lancashire Multi Agency Data Exchange (MADE) website, show everything from violent crime, drug offences, theft and road traffic accidents.
Using four of the major crime indicators - calls to the police, total recorded crime, criminal damage and reports of anti-social behaviour - the majority of wards have seen an overall decrease in crime figures from November 2007 to October 2008.
However, the youth offending figures, which record young people aged 10-17 who receive pre-court outcomes or court orders that involve the local youth offending team are up across the board.
These statistics include youths given action plan orders, reparation orders, community rehabilitation orders and final warnings with intervention.
Only in Farington East are the figures below those from the same period a year ago.
The total number of calls to the police in Leyland between November 2007 to October 2008 was 15,814, down from 16,410 during the same period the previous year - a 3.6 per cent decrease.
Of those calls, 4,302 were about anti-social behaviour, down 4.1 per cent from 4,488 12 months earlier.
This means that just over a quarter of all calls to police across Leyland were about anti-social behaviour.
Similarly, the total recorded crime in the town was down eight cent to 2,758, compared to 3,000.
