Crowds gather to enjoy new year celebrations
A taste of the Far East came to Leyland at the weekend as crowds flocked to welcome the Chinese New Year in style.
Hundreds of people from all over South Ribble gathered to watch Chinese drumming and take place in a number of craft workshops.
It was the first time the town played host to the event, which saw the Wade Hall and Crossways Jigsaw Company entertain visitors.
David Counsell, manager at Worden Arts and Crafts Centre, said: "Worden Park was swamped by families all wishing to see the event.
"South Ribble Arts Forum organised it as well as providing workshops for a number of local schools who produced flags and lanterns which were also part of the parade.
"There were craft workshops that were also well attended, and the miniature railway was so busy they had to put on an extra train for the event."
Representatives from the British Commercial Vehicle Museum provided information on nostalgic vehicles throughout the day.
A buffet was supplied by Wonderland Chinese Restaurant.
Mr Counsell said: "The event finale was the lighting of lanterns which were let go to wish good luck for the year of the Tiger, which you could see late on into dusk. There was a lovely family buzz and it was a great event for Leyland and Worden Park. A big thank you for all who attended and helped to put on this event."
