Decayed fence could lead to tragedy
Fears have been raised that people could fall down a 20ft railway embankment in Leyland because of the poor state of safety barrier.
Coote Lane in Farington runs over the railway line and is a popular route for walkers.
However, all that separates walkers from falling down the steep hill is a decayed and broken wooden safety rail and one stretch of barbed wire.
The issue was raised at a recent meeting of Farington Parish Council and now Network Rail has promised to investigate.
Parish councillor Colin Pollard believes it is only a matter of time before someone gets injured.
Keith Lumley, spokesman for Network Rail said: "We are responsible for this section of the road but this issue has not been reported.
"Now that it has been brought to our attention we will be investigating it and will be sorting it."
Anyone with any queries regarding train lines should contact the helpline on 08457114141.
