Driver left scene after knocking teen off bike
A teenager was knocked off his bicycle by a driver overtaking another car in Leyland.
Police are now appealing for information as the driver failed to stop after hitting the 14-year-old cyclist.
It happened at around 6.30pm on Thursday, October 25, when the teenage boy was cycling along Wigan Road at the junction of Lydiate Lane.
He was struck by a car overtaking another car.
The vehicle was heading in the direction of Bamber Bridge at the time and failed to stop at the scene.
Fortunately the teenager sustained only minor injuries.
A number of parts of the vehicle were left at the scene, including an offside wing mirror, which suggested it was a light blue VW Polo with an approximate year of manufacture of 2005.
Witnesses also stated that the vehicle had black ‘spikey’ wheels and dark tinted windows.
Sergeant Andrew McNally said: “The teenager was fortunate to have suffered only minor injuries, but we still need to find the person responsible.
“Were you driving the vehicle that was overtaken?
“Or do you have any knowledge of a car matching this description with a missing offside wing mirror and damage to front offside corner?
“If so, please contact us.
“I’m also keen to hear from anybody who witnessed the incident who hasn’t already spoken to police.”
Call police on 101.
