Accused: Jordan Clayton accused of causing death by dangerous driving

A coach driver has denied being on his mobile phone in the minutes before a horror crash that killed two teenage friends.

Kevin Morton was giving evidence at the trial of Jordan Clayton, 20, who is accused of two counts of death by dangerous driving, after a fatal collision that claimed the lives of Jade Pickering and Tia Guye.

The coach driver, who has more than 17 years’ experience, was travelling back from a trip to London when he collided with Clayton’s Ford Focus, at a notorious junction on the A6 Blackrod bypass.

However, under cross examination, he refuted claims by the defence that he had a received a 30-second phone call just minutes before the smash.

Clayton is accused of ignoring a number of warning signs that prohibited him from turning right at the A6 junction with Station Road.

It is the prosecution’s case that he drove into the path of the coach, killing the two 16-year-old girls, who lived in Eaves Lane, Chorley, and attended Runshaw College together.
