End of the line for fish and chip shop plan
Launder-it shop on Turpin Green Lane, Leyland
Proposals to open a new hot food takeaway in Leyland town centre have been turned down.
Plans to turn the derelict laundrette shop, Launder-it, on Turpin Green Lane, into a takeaway were discussed at a South Ribble Council meeting last night (Wednesday).
Planning officers had recommended permission be refused, and all members of planning committee voted against the scheme.
Officers said it would “impact upon highway safety, amenity of the residents, character and appearance of the area.”
There were also five letters of representation about the scheme from residents.
But the agent representing applicant Sally Griffiths insisted that people had nothing to worry about.
Khalid Khan, of Khalid Khan and Associates, based in Blackburn, told the Guardian the plans were for the unit to become a traditional English fish and chip shop, and said he didn’t expect any anti-social behaviour or parking issues to occur if the plans had been approved.
