Fears over ‘illicit activity’ in park

Cuerden Valley Park

Cuerden Valley Park

Dog walkers and park users at a local beauty spot today told of their concerns after children allegedly witnessed people meeting there for sex.

One angry resident, who walks his dog in the park, claimed youngsters had seen strangers meeting at Cuerden Valley Park’s main entrance in broad daylight.

Police have confirmed they are aware of incidents at the park and are monitoring the situation.

The concerned reader contacted the Evening Post to voice his disgust at alleged activities spotted at the entrance car park.

He said: “I don’t care what they do. If they are going to do it they should be discreet.

“Everyone knows why they are there, they are quite open about it.”

Previously, a website has highlighted Cuerden Valley car park, which is off the A49 Wigan Road, as a hotspot for illicit activities.

It says: “It’s a small car park on the way to Bamber Bridge from Chorley.”

Insp Steve Evans of Leyland Police said: “ We have run an operation there previously.

“We are paying attention to it and if we get concerns reported to us we will act on those concerns.

“We haven’t seen a noticeable increase in activity there, it is ongoing.

“A man was arrested two months ago for exposing himself though we believe he was loitering, rather than meeting there for sex.

“He is being dealt with by the courts.

“We would encourage anyone with concerns to contact us if there is anything untowards going on then we can direct our resources appropriately.”

Other beauty spots are notorious for dogging including Moor Park in Preston and areas of Beacon Fell in Longridge.

Anyone with concerns should call police on 101.
