Children are being encouraged to get into the Leyland Festival spirit early this year, and get ready to star in the popular parade through the town in June.

The Festival Committee has teamed up with the Double R Arts theatre group to running a six-week workshop for youngsters aged seven to 11 in the run-up to the festival.

The sessions will give the children an opportunity to learn dance, acting and singing skills, ready for a show-stopping performance in the procession and on Worden Park on June 21.

The group will meet at Peek-A-Brew on Hough Lane every Wednesday from May 7, from 4pm until 5pm.

The project is subsidised by the Leyland Festival Spirit Fund, so the cost for the workshop has been kept to a minimum– it’s £2 per session or £10 if all six sessions are paid for at once.

Masquerades Fancy Dress Hire in Midge Hall provided the team with worldwide outfits to coincide with this year’s fun theme.

Anyone wanting to don a ‘Round the World’ costume on the big day can get a discount from the shop from May 6.
